Trim Levels
The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in five trim levels and configurations: the SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line. Each of the Atlas trim levels comes with LED headlights and a power liftgate. The entry-level Atlas sits on 18-inch wheels, but those grow to 20 inches at the SE with Technology level, which also adds a hands-free liftgate. Choose the SEL to get a panoramic sunroof as a standard feature, as well as adaptive headlights. The SEL R-Line has an optional black appearance package that gives the Atlas all-black accents.
Engine
The 2022 Atlas starts its lineup with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. For more power, choose a model equipped with the available 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are connected to eight-speed automatic transmissions.
Performance
If you want more confidence on slippery roads, choose an Atlas equipped with the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. This traction-boosting upgrade gives you four drive modes that you can select through a dial near the center console: Snow, On-Road, Off-Road, and Off-Road Custom Mode. The Atlas's selectable Tiptronic mode allows you to take greater control over your automatic transmission's shift point via the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Interior
Fold down the rear seats to pack your adventuring gear, luggage, and groceries in up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. With all of the seats upright, the Atlas can fit up to seven passengers if you choose a model with the bench-style second row. Heated front seats are standard for the Atlas, as is faux leather upholstery. Stay cozier with the SE with Technology's tri-zone automatic climate control. The SEL Premium R-Line is the most luxurious with its heated rear-row seats, cooled front-row seats, and leather upholstery.
